I have arranged a visit and guided tour to the newly refurbished People’s History Museum in Manchester on Wednesday 14th July at 2.00pm. The cost will be £3 per person, but I might be able to arrange a bit of a discount for Society members. The Museum is very easy to get to. Train from either Stalybridge or Ashton to Victoria and cross over the platform and train for one stop to Salford Central. The entrance to the Museum is just over the bridge from the station. Alternatively since there is a little difficulty in getting on and off trains at Salford Central - catch the train to Manchester Picadilly and the the number 3 Shuttle Bus to Salford Central.
There is a good café and terrace where we could have lunch before the tour. I am going to need numbers fairly soon for both the tour and the café. Please get in touch as soon as possible for both the visit and if you want to meet beforehand to eat in the café. email: gayjoliver@gmail.com

Since 1990 Tameside MBC has funded an archaeological survey of the borough covering research, publication, family history and community archaeology themes. In that time the project has excavated medieval halls, textile mills and workers’ housing, supported local societies and groups across the borough in researching the borough’s past, such as the Tameside Archaeology Society and the Friends of Gorse Hall, and published 15 archaeological monographs on Tameside. This talk is a chance to review one of the longest running archaeological research projects in the country and to look forward to the future.
