Microfilm Hire
One of the most useful services offered at Family History Centres is the ability, for a modest hire fee, to order a whole range of information, on microfilm, from all over the world to view at your local centre. There are many family history centres around the British Isles and throughout the world.
The cost is 7 pounds 50 pence Sterling, and you have use of the film in the centre for 90 days.
Microfilms for the United Kingdom take about two to three weeks to arrive. Other films have to be ordered from Salt Lake City and take approximately 2 months to arrive. Items that are available on microfiche are even cheaper and remain in the centre for other clients to use, so you will also find a range of materials available from all over the country already held in your local centre.
If you want to check what kind of material is available on loan for any particular place click here to go to the Family History Catalogue on-line. Click on Place Search to start browsing what is available. When you have found an item you are interested in click on 'View Film Notes', this should give you details of any microfilms you may want to order. You can also print off a 'printer friendly' version for your records.
Family History Centres are non-profit making organisations administered and funded by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Staff are not genealogists, but many are very experienced and will give all the help they can.
